This report is another collaboration between the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), Lee Business School’s Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) and the Guinn Center. It expands on our previous labor force participation rate (LFPR) study to assess whether the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic recession continue to suppress Nevada’s LFPR. We have added 2022 data to the analysis to determine if our prior conclusions still hold. Specifically, we examine whether the postpandemic decline in the LFPR can be attributed to the local economic structure, especially its dependence on the leisure and hospitality sector, and whether the relative lack of higher education among the workforce hurts Nevada’s LFPR.
