Internships
NICRP partners with University of Nevada, Las Vegas and other educational institutions to offer internship opportunities. Undergraduate and graduate students assist NICRP in several research projects related to children in Nevada. We strive to ensure each internship experience is a strong fit for students’ current academic goals while also supporting their future professional development.

- Conduct literature reviews
- Assist with data collection, entry, and basic data management
- Support survey design, interviews, and focus groups
- Help draft reports, presentations, and grant materials
- Develop educational and outreach materials (brochures, social media, presentations)
- Assist with planning and coordinating community events, workshops, and trainings
- Engage with community members during outreach activities
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and attend staff meetings
- Contribute ideas for program improvement and addressing community needs
- Build skills in communication, critical thinking, cultural competency, and professionalism
- Gain hands-on experience connecting research to real-world community impact
Interns will gain hands on experience in public health research, community outreach, program development, and professional collaboration. Through participation in real world projects and community initiatives, interns will strengthen skills in communication, critical thinking, cultural competency, teamwork, and professionalism. This experience also provides opportunities to develop research, data management, event coordination, and educational material creation skills while learning how community based programs create meaningful impact.
Internship schedules are flexible and based on student availability, program requirements, and academic needs. Interns will regularly meet with faculty mentors for guidance, support, and progress check ins throughout their experience.
Intern Highlight
“As an intern, I supported global projects that made an incredible impact on my academic and professional development. I assisted with writing the standard operating procedure for the Total Diet Study of heavy metals taking place in the Philippines this year, and synthesized documents that summarized findings from studies of environmental heavy metals that took place in Ghana. Additionally, I learned how to input data into SPSS and other data platforms, and gained technical skills that make me a better research assistant now, and a better student working towards her Master’s program at UNLV.” – Makenzi Perkins

Work Environment
NICRP internships offer flexible scheduling based on student availability and academic requirements. Interns will gain hands on experience in a supportive and collaborative environment, primarily in an indoor office setting with opportunities to participate in community outreach events in both indoor and outdoor settings.
