This nationwide initiative, known as the Point-in-Time (PIT) count, is the primary census-based method for quantifying both sheltered and unsheltered homelessness in the United States, playing a pivotal role in shaping homelessness initiatives.
The Southern Nevada Homelessness Continuum of Care (SNHCoC) carried out the PIT count, specifically through the Collaborative Applicant, Clark County, in partnership with the City of Henderson, City of North Las Vegas, and the City of Las Vegas. To ensure accuracy and prevent duplicate data, personal identifying information such as name, date of birth, and social security number are used to compare data and remove duplicates. Volunteers supporting this effort were assigned to unique census tracts, to conduct interviews with as many people experiencing homelessness as possible.
