The ConfiDANCE program was developed to bring the benefits of ballroom dance–based SEL to Clark County School District students. The program is adaptable for middle and high school settings and can be implemented both during school and in out-ofschool time (OST) programs. Its mission is to create a supportive environment where all students—including those who may be introverted or reserved—can thrive and shine. Through the joy of movement, ConfiDANCE fosters physical health, builds self-esteem, and strengthens social skills. These SEL competencies are recognized protective factors against suicide and key contributors to youth resiliency, helping participants better navigate adverse life events and other risk factors. The program also incorporates a cultural education component, introducing students to the origins of dances, including the customs and geographic contexts of diverse communities. By blending local and international dance styles, ConfiDANCE promotes cultural awareness and appreciation, expanding students’ understanding of the world.
The program is supported by a highly qualified team with expertise in both ballroom dance and youth mental health. Dr. Knight and Dr. Haboush-Deloye, both professionally trained ballroom instructors and researchers, lead the initiative. The goal of this evaluation was to examine the implementation of ConfiDANCE in Title I schools during the 2024–2025 academic year. Specifically, the evaluation sought to assess changes in SEL competencies, student satisfaction, and overall program feasibility.
